How do I Start a Packet?

Modified on Wed, 11 Sep at 9:25 AM

The Packets feature is only available with the Plus Package or as an add-on.
Packets let you bundle multiple forms together for easy assignment and tracking. You can start a packet from the Tracking or Templates tab, then customize who receives and completes each form. Packets help you keep everything organized by showing who’s done what and how close they are to getting everything completed.

Getting Started

Before you can start a packet, you need to create a Packet Template. Think of this as your blueprint – it’s where you set up the forms and contributors that will be part of the packet. If you have not yet created a Packet Template, follow these instructions before continuing below.

How to Start or Assign a Packet

Starting a packet means creating a new instance where you can assign forms and track their progress as a group. Let’s dive into how to do this!

1

Navigate to the Packets Page
You’ll find the Packets page in the left-side navigation menu.

If Packets isn’t listed, it means your account doesn’t have the necessary permissions. Reach out to your platform administrator for access.
2

Choose Where to Start Your Packet
You can start a new packet from either the Tracking tab or the Templates tab.

From the Tracking Tab
Click the Start Packet button on the right side of the search bar.  Select the template you’d like to use by pressing the Start link on the corresponding template card.
From the Templates Tab
Press the Start link on the relevant template card.
3

Set Up Assignments
Once you’ve started a packet, a window will appear to help you set up your assignments. This is where you’ll decide who will work on each form and what their specific roles will be.

Enter Assignment Details (left pane)
  • On the left side of the window, you can assign people to each role. Use the dropdown menu to select contributors or search by name/email if you have a long list.
  • Need to assign someone not in your organization? No problem! Click Select Someone Else at the bottom of the list and enter their name and email.
  • If you make a mistake, you can remove a contributor by clicking the trash can icon next to their name.
Form Assignments (right pane)
  • The right side of the window displays the forms in the packet and who they will be assigned to.
  • Initially, forms will be marked as “Unassigned.” As you select contributors on the left, the assignments will automatically update here.
  • When a form is assigned, it will show a green indicator with the assignee’s name and email.

Making One-Time Packet Adjustments

Sometimes, you might need to tweak a packet template before assigning it for a single packet instance.

Reassign Forms
If you need to assign a form to someone different from the default assignee, click Reassign next to the form name. This change applies only to this packet instance.

This might be helpful if you know someone is out of the office and you'd like for someone else to handle this packet in their place.
Remove Forms
To remove a form from this packet instance, click the blue trash can icon next to the form name. This won’t delete the form from the template but will ensure it isn’t part of this particular packet.

If you accidentally delete a form, no worries! Click “Restore” to add it back.

This might be helpful if you know a particular form has already been completed and just need to assign other forms within the packet.

Finalizing Your Packet

Once everything looks good, hit the Start Packet button at the bottom left. This launches the packet instance, assigns the forms, and allows you to track progress on your All Submissions and Packets pages as Not Started Submissions.

And that’s it! You’ve successfully started a packet.
