How do I change which folder files are downloaded into?

Modified on Fri, 16 Feb at 12:16 PM

When you download files from your browser, they should typically end up in your computer's Downloads folder by default. If this is not the case, or if you would like to change where files are downloaded, you can use these steps to change this setting. These instructions should help guide you regardless of which browser you are using. The exact location and appearance of options may vary.

  1. Go to the browser menu. This is usually a "⋮" or "☰" button in the top right of the browser window.
  2. A dropdown menu will likely appear. Click on Settings within this menu.
  3. Proceed to the Downloads section of the settings.

If the location of the Downloads section is not immediately obvious, it may be simpler to type "Download" into the search area for settings at the top of the window (Not to be confused with your browser's navigation bar).

  1. Somewhere on the page, you should now see a setting displaying the current download location indicated by a file path, with an option to change said location.

  1. Click Change and select a new location where your files should be downloaded.

Your downloaded files will now be saved in this new location by default.
